Last Picture Day of 2011 - I Heart Macro

Today is the first day of the New Year - 2012 and the first of I Heart Macro for 2012.  I know this is a post from December 31st, 2011, but I loved these pictures mom and I took at the cemetery yesterday.  Mom does really good with the face shots and I suck :)  I did tweak the pictures a little bit in Picnik, just made them a little bit more clearer and sharp and added the Vignette to the pic also, I like the little bit of black around the outside of the photos.

Enjoy:

Yesterday mom and I decided to go to several different cemeteries to take pictures of statues.  Or I should say it was something I wanted to do and mom went along with me.

You need to go to the older cemeteries to find statues now because the new cemeteries don't have them, gravestones are buried in the ground (no statues anywhere).

It is a real shame, one of the cemeteries mom and I went to was in real disrepair.  It didn't look like anyone had been in there to clean up in a long time.

There were some really cool headstones that had moss and greenery all over them, you could barely read the inscriptions.

Mom did find a website that lists all the cemeteries in Indiana.  I think I want to do a road trip sometime to see what the cemeteries of Indiana and if they have any cool statues.

  4. Gorgeous! I love going to the old cemeteries and taking pictures of the angles. Our old Stonewall Jackson Cemetery - where he and his family are buried - has VERY OLD sections in such disrepair. Tombstones falling over and other cracking. It is so sad. Still, there is something so beautiful and peaceful walking up and down the rows. Happy New Year. genie

  5. The photos are beautiful! I visited a very old cemetery for the first time in Charleston, SC last year and I loved it! It dated back to the civil war and was the most interesting of places to visit and take pictures. I would like to find more, closer to home!
    Happy New Year!

  6. These are beautiful, moving photographs and such a nice tribute to times and people gone by. A lovely reflection as we pass from one year to another.

  7. Such nice shots. Great job getting that old mossy feel and texture in headstones and statues. There is just something pretty and serene about cemeteries isn't there. Some people find it kinda wierd. But some people have no creativity.
    Cheers,

  8. Lovely details of the moss on the statues. I also like the wonderful perspective with which you have taken some of the statues.
